RSE
Our curriculum both implicitly and explicitly embed the requirements of the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education statutory requirements of the DFE including:
Embracing the challenges of creating happy and successful adult lives for our students, by providing students with the knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy. Students can also put this knowledge into practice as they develop the capacity to make sound decisions when facing risks, challenges and complex contexts. Everyone faces difficult situations in their lives. These subjects can help young people to develop resilience, to know how and when to ask for help, and to know where to access support.
The RSE curriculum is taught through high quality, evidence-based and age-appropriate teaching of this subject which will help prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. They can also enable us to promote the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils, at school and in society.
The RSE curriculum is taught through several avenues in school:
- In curriculum subjects both at Key Stage Three and Key Stage Four
- In Key Stage Three all students have a Personal Development lesson once a week
- In Key Four all students have a weekly session covering PSHE and RSE
- The assembly schedule is carefully mapped across the year to align with our RSE and PSHE curriculum
- The Academy's three Value, Attitude and Attribute (VAA) days across the year support RSE themes
