PSHE Curriculum

The PSHE/RSEcurriculum has been designed to build on the knowledge, understanding, skills, attributes and values pupils have acquired.

PSHE/RSE acknowledges and addresses the changes that young people experience such as the challenges of adolescence and their increasing independence. It teaches the knowledge and skills which will equip them for the opportunities and challenges of life. Students learn to manage diverse relationships and the increasing influence of their peers and the media.

At key stage 4 PSHE education reflects the fact that students are moving towards an independent role in adult life, taking on greater responsibility for themselves and others. Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) includes learning about emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, relationships, sex, human sexuality and sexual health in an age appropriate and sensitive way. SRE forms part of the PSHE education curriculum and complements the biological aspects of sex education. As well as providing accurate information on human biology and sexual reproduction, it gives pupils essential skills for building positive relationships. As well as respectful, non-exploitative relationships and staying safe both on and offline.

Through our delivery of PSHE/SRE we aim to explicitly teach all elements of Keeping Children Safe in education including: personal safety, Fundamental British Values, self-esteem, Anti-Bullying, Racism, Homophobia, CSE, CCE. The curriculum is based on three core themes within which there is broad overlap and flexibility:

  • Core theme 1. Health and Wellbeing
  • Core theme 2. Relationships
  • Core theme 3. Living in the Wider World
