Leeds East Academy Comic-Club members were celebrating as their favourite comic ‘Star Cat’ scooped first prize at this year’s annual British Comic Awards event.
The British Comic Awards (Young People’s Category) is run in association with Leeds Library and is judged by young people with an aim to celebrate the best comics aimed at a young audience. The library’s comic-club have been enjoying all of the nominated works before voting for their favourite and attending the awards ceremony at Leeds Art Gallery.
LEA students were thrilled when comic-creators Dan White and Craig Conlan personalised their planners with an assortment of weird and wonderful characters.
Creator of Malecium, EdieOP, told students how she had the idea for her first comic ‘Dangerfun’, a comic which illustrates lots of fun but extremely dangerous activities. ”I had lost 11 teeth and had 7 bumps to my head when my English teacher said I should write about my antics.”
