Year 8 Options

Steps to Securing Ambitious Futures

Leeds East Academy experienced a fantastic turn out on 7th March for the extremely important Year 8 Options Evening.

Year 8 are at a crucial point in their education, as next year they will begin their GCSEs and will need to make a number of choices in relation to the subjects they will study throughout this time. This is an important decision for our students, to ensure they leave Leeds East Academy with the best set of qualifications, enabling each individual to realise their dreams and achieve their ambition in life.

The purpose of Options Evening is to support students with this important step and equip them and their families with as much information as possible about the next stage in their education.

The evening started at 5:00pm and commenced with an informative and insightful presentation from the Principal, Mr Stokes, outlining the changes to the current GCSE examination system and the choices on offer at Key Stage 4. Parents commented on how useful this had been in helping them to understand the new grading systems and in supporting their children to make informed choices with regards to their GCSEs.

To support students with their choices, a detailed brochure explaining the assessment procedures for the courses and the potential career pathways on offer was handed out to parents at the event. Families were able to take these away with them to spend some valuable time discussing the options prior to making their selection. More details about the KS4 Options Guide is available below.

Following the presentation, families were directed to the Sports Hall to visit the subject stalls. The stalls were expertly manned with staff on hand to provide guidance and answer questions in relation to each course offered. Mr Stokes commented: “Over the course of the evening a number of parents had spoken to me to say how impressed they were with the event and how professional the stalls appeared."

It was fantastic to see so many parents supporting their children in making their choices and demonstrating a united commitment to the importance and value of their education.

Ms Carrie added: "This was a very successful evening and great team effort from all the staff at Leeds East Academy."
