Streetwise Road Safety

This week, students in Foundation School experienced Streetwise, a Performance in Education production event aimed at Pedestrian Safety.

As young people start to use the roads independently, Streetwise provides students with the opportunity to explore risk, responsibility and consequences as a pedestrian. This enables them to make informed decisions, manage their personal safety and understand how their behaviour affects those around them.

The performance identified and challenged distractions to pedestrians’ safety, such as mobile phones, mp3 players and talking with friends. The drama recreates real-life strategies to overcome peer pressure around poor road safety and encourages the use of school crossing patrols and pedestrian crossings, as well as reminding young people to ask for help whenever it’s needed.

Ms Manners, Year 7 Transition Leader said: "The students really enjoyed the performance and could see how their own behaviour was similar to the characters in the show. It was a very engaging performance with a hard-hitting finale. Thank you to Performance in Education for a crucial lesson in road safety which applies to us all."
