Road Safety Awareness

Advice for staying safe when travelling
The safety of our pupils is paramount at Leeds East Academy. We have in place a number of precautionary measures to make sure we are doing our utmost to ensure young people are safe when travelling to and from school.
Every morning and afternoon, we have staff placed strategically around the Academy grounds and the local community to monitor the road safety awareness of our pupils. With this in mind, however, we have noticed a number of safety concerns that have arisen due to the carelessness of our pupils.
We believe that the partnership between the Academy and you as parents/carers is essential to ensuring our pupils model the correct safety behaviours. Within the Academy, we have welcomed a local Road Safety agency, called ‘Streetwise’, who led an educational performance to our younger students, but rely on your help to implement this for your child.
Please help us to raise awareness of the importance of road safety and what measures should be taken to limit the risk of accidents when travelling.
Road Safety Precautions:
• Plan your route to school wisely; remember the shortest route is not always the safest.
• Give yourself plenty of time so you are not rushing.
• Always cross a road at the safest place possible.
• Avoid going anywhere that is unlit or you fear is not safe.
• Do not use mobile devices when near a road - including the removal of headphones.
• Take care when you are disembarking any vehicle.
• Parents to drop off pupils in a safe place.
• Do not involve yourself in any boisterous behaviour.
If you wish to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact the Academy.
