Record KS3 Results

Foundation School have been celebrating outstanding Key Stage 3 results, as many students enjoyed the benefits of our new pilot ‘Next Steps Curriculum’. There have been transformational improvements in Key Stage 3 subjects, in particular Maths, English and Science which demonstrates how attainment gap is rapidly closing as lower year groups continue to perform well.
Summer Evans was one of the students who achieved the award of ‘Most Progress Made’. She said: “I was really shocked when I got my data collection report, and I did better than I expected.”
From each different starting point, the proportion of students making expected progress and the proportion exceeding expected progress in English and Mathematics are close to or above national figures. The attainment and progress of disadvantaged pupils at least match or are rapidly approaching those of other pupils nationally and in the Academy.
The Next Steps Curriculum is designed to ensure that students achieve their full potential by demonstrating a thorough understanding of the content and skills required to achieve good GCSE outcomes at the end of Year 11 irrespective of their starting points.
Vice Principal for achievement, Mr Rafiq, said: “The creation of the Next Steps Curriculum at KS3 has provided us with the flexibility and focus to really tailor our curriculum and assessment processes to support individual progression regardless of starting points.”
Foundation School Leader Mr Reynolds adds: “The Key Stage 3 outcomes in English, Maths and Science are a tribute to the hard work our students have put in, as well as the dedication of the staff who have given them excellent teaching and guidance.”
Head of Maths, Miss Gill said: "The next Steps curriculum, in Maths, has been very successful in raising the attainment of our students in both Years 7 and 8. Students will benefit from this early success in maths which will allow them to excel when they begin their GCSE preparations."
At Leeds East Academy we are committed to narrowing the gap between all learners. Regardless of which KS3 pathway students begin their learning journey on, we will continually review progress throughout the year and make adjustments to targets if needed to ensure students make the maximum amount of progress.
