Poetry Slam 2017

Leeds East Academy took part in the annual White Rose Academies Trust Poetry Slam this term, in a workshop hosted by performance poet Andy Craven-Griffiths.

Over 20,000 young people have benefitted from Andy's workshops since he began running them in 2007. As a poet, he has performed live on stage for Glastonbury and Latitude, with broadcast readings for BBC Radio and Television. Printed work also includes poetry journals such as Magma and Ambit.

The Poetry Slam Workshop is the first stage of an inter-Academy poetry slam event. The competition will see the best poets and performers from Leeds East Academy join other White Rose Academies Trust schools for a boot camp event in March before 'slamming' it out in the final on 30th March which will be broadcast live from Chapel FM.

Librarian Mrs Dingwall said: "The students always love working with Andy. He's such a brilliant performer and an inspiration to our students. We have won the Poetry Slam two years running and having seen the performances today I am confident we have a great team going through to the final once more."
