Maths Peer Mentoring

Students at Leeds East Academy have been working it out together through a highly successful Maths Peer Mentoring Programme. The dedication of our Mentors and Mentees in the programme has been outstanding so far this year, providing measurable progress within the subject. Both Year 7 and Year 9 students came prepared, were enthusiastic in their learning and worked hard towards achieving their goals.
Mr Stokes, Academy Principal, said: "The commitment of our Year 9 students in supporting their younger peers has been very impressive, demonstrating leadership and support within our learning community. Our students' dedication to their Maths mentees has been exceptional, providing opportunities to develop leadership and communication skills whilst increasing confidence and motivation within their own Maths classes."
The Maths Peer Mentoring Programme will continue throughout this new term. All mentees and mentors have attended a Pizza Social after school, providing the opportunity to re-assess their learning goals, plan for this new half term, and re-establish their connections with each other and the programme.
This term the Academy will also be celebrating our first Graduate from MPM – Jodie-Lee. In order for a student to graduate, they must progress along the Next Steps Curriculum to the Bronze level.
Mr Stokes adds: "At Leeds East Academy we are thoroughly impressed with the work that these students have done and look forward to seeing our high expectations continuously met throughout 2017."
