Hairspray - The Musical

Tickets now Available for Whole School Production

Leeds East Academy has confirmed that the next whole school production is Hairspray, the Tony award-winning Broadway musical based on the 1988 film by John Waters.

Set in 1962, the musical follows teenager Tracy Turnblad and her dream to dance live on The Corny Collins Show. Against all odds, Tracy wins the television competition and becomes an unlikely dance sensation and national celebrity. A social commentary on prejudice and freedom of expression, Hairspray is full of dance, comedy and glorious Technicolor, featuring classic dance hits and the famous ensemble routine You Can’t Stop The Beat.
 

 
Ms. Spencer-Matthews, director, said: "We're all looking forward to Hairspray this month. It's an upbeat, feel-good show which is bound to get audiences of all ages on their feet. Following on from Grease and Annie last year, Hairspray is another opportunity to provide a vast range of performance genres for our students to experience. Again, the whole Academy will be working together to bring this exciting show to stage in a bold and original way."

Hairspray opens on Wednesday 22nd March - Thursday 23rd March from 7pm. Tickets are priced at £5 full price, £3 concessions. The show has an approx. running time of 90 minutes.
