Home BTEC Performance

This term, Year 11 Performing Arts students performed Home, a visionary devised piece of theatre which contributes towards their BTEC PA qualification

The students had taken their inspiration from the regular news stories they had read on the refugee crisis, including poems and interviews with volunteers. They produced a thought-provoking and intelligent piece that demonstrated excellent performance, referencing their understanding of companies such as DV8 Physical Theatre and Frantic Assembly.

Mrs Spencer-Matthews was very impressed with the level of research the students undertook to ensure their piece communicated the hardships teenage refugees across the globe face. She said: "The piece was incredibly well-received by Year 10. Students were commenting that it really made them think about how much we take for granted and how frustrating a situation the world is in, and that much more could be done to help. It is wonderful to know that we are working with such switched on, thoughtful young people."

Mr Stokes added: "Well done to Year 11 on a superlative performance, which was thought-provoking and very engaging. The use of cutting-edge projection effects placed this production up there with performances seen at West Yorkshire Playhouse. Congratulations to all involved."
