CT Day: Trinity Kitchen Project

Year 11's CT Day at Leeds East Academy was a great success, inspiring students in future careers whilst expanding their team-working skills.

The day began with a truly inspirational speech from a student of Parkland School, Sharon Watson; who is now the artistic director and choreographer for Phoenix Dance Theatre. Students listened intently to the life story of such an inspirational character of whom they could relate in areas such as; social, cultural background as well as resilience and overcoming challenges in order to achieve future ambition.  This motivational speech focused on individual liberty and the rights of students to pursue their aspirational goals.

The day continued with teacher led workshops provided by Leeds Ahead, focusing on enterprise and economic wellbeing as well as using a range of social skills within different contexts.  Students completed a fun and contemporary enterprise challenge by working in teams to design an innovative street food concept. Many of the students of LEA focused specifically on the celebration of cultural diversity within Leeds to come up with a range of products currently not established within Trinity Kitchen. Students focused on business enterprise by developing product costings, investigating profit margins and trading standards as well as laws relating to British Values, specifically the Rule of Law.

Students showed mutual respect for others ideas and perspectives through successfully producing a presentation to fellow students and business entrepreneurs.  Students demonstrated a real willingness to work cooperatively and cohesively with others.  Final presentations to the business dragons showed a range of students developing in confidence and overcoming inhibitions, expanding their communication and also improving their presentation skills.

The day concluded with a presentation on revision skills which students reported to be invaluable, particularly relating to a positive mind set towards their fastly-approaching mock exams.

Ms Mumby said: "CT Day has developed social cohesiveness amongst students as well as solidifying student-coach relationships."
