Building Confidence with Phoenix Dance

Year 9 demonstrated confidence and resilience as part of Leeds East Academy's ever-popular CT Day this term. CT Days exist to extend the range and impact of the school's wider PSHE Curriculum, ensuring that our whole school community is educated in the skills of personal well-being.
Students were focused and engaged in the sessions taking place in the school's dance studio, which was lead by Pheonix Dance. Ms Mumby said: "It was particularly pleasing to see students enjoying the dance workshop with our inspirational Phoenix dance instructor. Students who would not normally have had the confidence to take part were rolling around the floor and 'busting moves'! It was a very uplifting, confidence-boosting exercise which enriched us mentally and physically."
The dance sessions were run in addition to sexual health workshops, where students were contributing valid and mature responses to the work.
Ms Mumby added: "Year 9 have been asking serious and mature questions surrounding sexual health and E-safety, with students sharing their experiences of social media. Some of our students have lots of friends on Facebook who they've never met, which has been very interesting from our safeguarding perspective."
