Acting Assistant Principal
From the age of five, David had always wanted to be a footballer. Despite representing Leeds United and Hull City’s academy sides, a career as a professional was not to be. Instead, he went on to be the first in his family to attend university, studying Sports Science at Leeds University.
While coaching football in the United States, David found his passion in encouraging young people and decided upon a career in teaching. On his return, he completed the Graduate Teacher Program receiving an outstanding grade while working at St. Mary’s College in Hull.
After completing his training year, David started work at Leeds West Academy. During his time there he took on various areas of responsibility before becoming the High School Leader in 2013. While in post, he completed the nationally recognised Teaching Leaders qualification. In this role, he was able to improve attendance year on year, reduce behavioural incidents and support students through a varied package of intervention. David was very lucky to be granted a sabbatical during the academic year of 2015-16 in which he travelled the world visiting different schools across Asia, South America and North America.
Alongside travel, David is also passionate about exercise, family and trying new things. This year he is aiming to start a Masters, read more books and take up a new sport.
David began his role as Acting Assistant Principal of Student Experience at Leeds East Academy in February 2018. In this role, he will continue to drive forward the areas of student leadership, extra-curricular and careers education in order to develop well-rounded, ambitious students.
