Students Soar to Success at Leeds East Academy

On the 5th July, Leeds East Academy worked in partnership with Parklands Primary School to host the nation-wide Times Tables Rock Wrangle event.

The Times Tables Rock Wrangle is an online programme which supports students' learning of times tables and numeracy. Students from 50 schools across the North of England attended and competed against each other at the event.

The quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals have been held at Leeds East Academy with the winning school having the unique opportunity to experience a helicopter flight over the local area. Two students from Leeds East Academy also experienced the flight as a reward for outstanding resilience and attendance this academic year.

BBC Breakfast, BBC Look North and Made in Leeds attended the event at the Academy, with BBC Look North's Harry Gration speaking to the Principal about the importance of numeracy in education.

Mr Stokes said: “Thank you to Parklands for making this opportunity available to students across the North of England. We are delighted to host this prestigious event and, as our Academy mission is Soaring to Success, we’re delighted our students have been demonstrating outstanding resilience in their learning, to secure the flight of a lifetime over the local area."
