Leeds East Academy

Short Story Success

Paige's winning short-form writing is published on a postcard

Leeds East Academy students who were involved in the First Story writing workshops last term entered a competition to write a 100-word story. This term, we are delighted to announce that Paige is a leading winner of this competition and has had her story printed onto a postcard.

By helping students find their voices through intensive, fun programmes, First Story raises aspirations and gives students the skills and confidence to achieve them.

Throughout the year, Sarah Bradley, our writer in residence and English teacher Ms Sanders have been involved in running a workshop with a small group of Year 9 and 10 students. During these sessions, students wrote their own poems and stories, which are now due to be published in a Trust Anthology for September.

Ms Sanders said: "Paige's story, Modern God, is a fantastic modern spin on Norse Mythology. Well done to Paige for her imaginative ideas and passion for writing."

Mr Stokes adds: "Congratulations on your publishing success, Paige. As school winner for Leeds East Academy, we are very proud of this huge achievement which I believe will be the start of a thriving career in writing. We're all excited to see the other creative works in the White Rose Academies Trust Anthology in September. Well done."
