Providing More Teachers Per Student
As I am sure that you will have noted, the primary content of my letters to you recently has very much focused around our steps forward with recruitment and also attendance. Recruitment of the very highest quality teachers for your children has been a relentless focus of mine since becoming Principal at the start of this year. I am thrilled to report to you this week that our work in this area is now complete and we have now appointed 23 new teachers to the Academy for September.
Speaking with groups of parents this week, I had the opportunity to explain why I felt it was so important to recruit so many new staff into the Academy. The obvious first reason is of course to reduce class sizes, which will be on average just 18 next year, however my secondary intention is to completely remove the need for supply teachers in our school. I wish to ensure that your children are taught in a way that they are familiar with to ensure total stability within the Academy. By employing more English, Mathematics and Science teachers than we actually need, we are able to ensure that in the event of a colleague leaving or becoming ill, there is always another professional within the school who knows our students, is confident with our systems and can effectively step into their place.

Reflecting on the events of this week, I am pleased to let you know of the huge success of Year 8 Options Evening. Almost all parents of Year 8 students attended the event with their children and it was wonderful to see so many meaningful and enthusiastic conversations taking place about GCSE options for Year 9. With almost half of students already selecting subjects and returning their options forms, may I remind all of Year 8 that the deadline is the 28th March and that options will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Finally, to finish off yet another successful week in the Academy, I am delighted to let you know that the Leeds East Academy Dynamics Dance Team performed a routine at the Leeds School Sport Partnership Key Stage 3 Dance Festival this week. Competing against ten other schools at Temple Moor, Leeds East Academy came an outstanding second place which was a fantastic achievement for all involved.
I wish you a restful and relaxing weekend.
