In school this week Year 11 have been completing their mock examinations in the main hall. Mock exams are designed to give students an experience of the real thing before exams begin in just twelve weeks’ time. To say that students coped well with the pressures of exams would be an understatement; our students have excelled themselves and early indications suggest that they have made huge amounts of progress since their last set of mocks in October. As a testament to the students’ commitment towards their studies, Year 11’s attendance reached an all-time high this week, demonstrating how seriously the year group takes the importance of mock examinations. Well done Year 11!
Alongside the mock examinations we have been continuing our recruitment drive and have secured for the Academy one new English teacher, four new Mathematics teachers and two new Science teachers who will all join us in September. As you will remember, the recruitment of these colleagues is aimed to ensure that your child receives the most personalised learning experience possible within the limits of the financial resources I have available. The colleagues who will join us were put through an extensive interview programme and demonstrated themselves to the very highest level and we are absolutely thrilled with their appointments.
To sum up what really has been an excellent week in the Academy, throughout the week Year 5 and 6 students from Primary schools in the local area have been visiting our school to experience the fantastic facilities we have ready and waiting for them as they embark into Secondary education. Our School Transition Leader Ms Manners has been working hard to give as many Primary-aged children as possible the opportunity to visit our school. Following their experience with us this week, 90% of pupils commented that they would choose Leeds East Academy as their first choice of school. This is great to hear and is a reinforcement of just what a fantastic school Leeds East Academy is.
I wish you a restful and relaxing weekend.
