The catalyst to supporting our teachers' development
At Leeds East Academy we know that high-quality CPD is the catalyst to supporting our teachers to develop the best teaching practice possible, so we can secure fantastic outcomes for our students. We take great pride in the staff training on offer at Leeds East Academy and our training schedule has been carefully designed and mapped out to ensure maximum impact on improving pedagogy.
As part of our CPD offer, colleagues can benefit from a broad range of internal and external CPD opportunities which support not only day-to-day teaching practice but career progression too.
An example of external CPD our staff are able to access is The Middle Leadership Development Programme, which is facilitated through our exciting partnership with the GORSE Academies Trust who are an outstanding Multi-Academy Trust. This programme requires us to identify aspiring middle leaders within our Academy who we believe have the ability to lead key subjects and areas within the school. The training provided through this course prepares colleagues for the demands of a leadership role in addition to teaching the skills required to make the role a success. We are delighted that Danielle Ord has recently been accepted onto this course and has attended her first session this week.
In terms of our internal CPD offer, all staff have the opportunity to attend a range of short 1-hour, extended twilight and full-day training sessions. This year the training so far has focused on raising the awareness of our quality assurance processes, key Teaching and Learning priorities, highly effective strategies to support SEND students, child protection and behaviour modification.
On Friday the 20th of October we had our second full day of training, looking at developing strategies to ensure high standards of behaviour, safety and wellbeing are evident around the Academy at all times during the day.
Mr Rafiq our Associate Principal commented: "Our philosophy at Leeds East Academy is absolutely clear; we want to teach our students well so that they learn to the best of their ability and go out into the world with the best possible springboard to becoming productive and successful citizens. The Behaviour, Safety and High Expectations training day is an essential part of our ongoing CPD for staff to ensure we continue to create a stimulating, secure and caring environment which includes high expectations and high ambition for all."
The training sessions create the opportunity for colleagues to work collaboratively on a number of current educational issues to find strategies which work in our context. Staff are extremely positive about the CPD provision we have in place with evaluations for recent training showing 100% of staff to believe the quality of staff training is good or better.
