Dedicating a week of activities to raise money
Before the half term break, Leeds East Academy had a busy week raising awareness and funds for the Lord Mayor of Leeds’ chosen charity, Candlelighters.
Candlelighters support families across the Yorkshire region that are affected by all stages of childhood cancer - during treatment, after treatment and through bereavement.
During the four days, the Academy raised money through various events such as a textile weigh-in, a chocolate tombola and a glitter tattoo stall.

Ms Steel said: “The pupils were really keen to do their best throughout the week and the efforts were fabulous during our 'wear neon' day on the Friday in celebration of the region’s Just One Day event.”
The money will go towards renovating the Candlelighters Cottage, which will provide four families with accommodation every night, 365 days a year, whilst their children are being treated at Leeds Children's Hospital.
Amy Harrison, Corporate Fundraiser for Candlelighters said: “Just One Day was a great opportunity for all areas of the fantastic Leeds community to come together in aid of Candlelighters. This initiative, led by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, was to raise money for the refurbishment and running of the Candlelighters Cottage, in which families of children with cancer can stay when their child is receiving treatment at Leeds Children’s Hospital.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the people of Leeds in supporting this initiative, and are so grateful to the staff and students at Leeds East Academy for their passion and enthusiasm; helping us raise much needed money and awareness.”
