Building Resilience in Education
This week’s assembly theme focuses on one of our 7 Core Values.
Mr Rafiq, Senior Vice Principal, is delivering a strong message to students to help instil the kind of resilience that we want all our students to have and which is key in ensuring their future success. Mr Rafiq spoke about having the ambition to set high targets and to never give up on the goals set regardless of setbacks.
At some point, everyone experiences varying degrees of setbacks. Resilient people are able to utilise their skills and strengths to cope and recover from problems and challenges. Instead of falling into despair or hiding from problems with unhealthy coping strategies, resilient people face life's difficulties head on. Mr Rafiq showed the video of Derek Redmond who demonstrated amazing resilience to continue to finish the race when he injured himself in the 1992 Olympics.
Mr Rafiq said: "Tackle your problems head on and stay resilient by not dwelling on the negatives, and focus on the positives to achieve your end goal."
